Ik heb Surinaamse roots en woon en werk als sinds 1998 als fotograaf in het mooie Leiden.

Mijn vader gaf mij als kleine jongen een mooi advies dat mij altijd is bijgebleven: help mensen. Help elkaar, dan komt het goed. Deze levensles vormt nog altijd de basis van mijn werk als fotograaf. Want in feite is dat wat ik doe: ik help mensen aan mooie beelden en blijvende herinneringen. Zo maak ik mensen blij.

Al van jongs af aan ben ik bezig met fotografie. Op mijn twaalfde zag ik voor een eerst een foto tot ontwikkeling komen in een donkere kamer: wauw, ik vond het geweldig! Toen ik zestien was, kreeg ik mijn eerste professionele fotocamera. Dit raakte mij diep in mijn hart. Vanaf dat moment wist ik wat mijn levensmissie was: mensen met unieke beelden een tastbare herinnering geven. Dat is nu meer dan 40 jaar geleden.

Henry Badeloe: A photographer from The Hague with a passion for photography

I have been living and working as a photographer in the lovely city of The Hague since 1998 but my roots are in Suriname.

As a little boy, my father gave me some great advice that I still remember today: help people! Help each other and everything will be all right. This life lesson still forms the basis of my work as a photographer. I help people by creating beautiful images and lasting memories and that’s how I make them happy.

I became involved in photography at an early age. When I was twelve, I saw a photo develop for the first time in a dark room. Wow, I loved it! And when I was sixteen, I got my first professional camera. That was thirty years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. And from then onwards, I knew that my mission in life was to give people unique images that would provide them with tangible and lasting memories.

I always have a small (video) camera in my bag. Even when I go to the store or to visit someone. And if I just want to relax, then I grab my bike and my camera and go out. I am constantly looking for special locations and moments to capture. Photographing people is my passion!

A photographer who loves people

A teacher once said, “As a portrait photographer, you have to love all people”. And that is absolutely true. I think it’s fantastic to work with people. Young and old. Different cultures and religions. Men and women. Everyone is unique and different. That’s what makes my work beautiful.

From my years in photography, I have learnt how to put both adults and children at ease. Laughing helps people to relax. And in no time, I see them opening up and I start clicking. And I create the authentic images that will be the photos that make you actually feel people’s emotions.

I also record the little things around people because they determine the atmosphere. Images must live. You have to taste the cake and smell the smells!

Going for the perfect photo

Shooting is a creative process that starts with the first meeting. I listen and I observe. And I look at people’s features and facial expressions. This is how I immediately know which angle the light should come from. From the intake to the editing and from the photo shoot to the end result, you will have my full focus and attention. I always go for the perfect photo. For that ‘wow’ feeling. You’ll receive a photo that will surprise and move you. If you are touched by my photo, then my day is perfect!

 

I have my own photo studio in The Hague. But I am also happy to come to the location of your choice. Throughout the Netherlands or beyond!
